Description

Unit Overview
Our AS Unit is a high-volume perioperative department supporting a wide variety of surgical and procedural specialties.
The department consists of:
 10 operating rooms
 1 procedure room
o Endoscopy
o Bronchoscopy
o TEE/Cardioversion procedures
 Approximately 45 cases per day
 Patient age demographic: 6 months to over 100 years old.
Important Information
 The RN will be responsible for pre-operative and post-operative patient care only and will not be required to circulate in the operating room.
 RN should also have experience in admission and discharge.

The ASU supports a diverse case mix including:
 General Surgery
 Bariatric Surgery
 Orthopedics
 Vascular Surgery
 Neurosurgery
 Cardiac Procedures
 Gastroenterology (GI)
 Genitourinary (GU)
 Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT)
 Gynecology (GYN)
 Plastic Surgery
 Podiatry
 Interventional Radiology
Highest-volume specialties: General Surgery and Orthopedics
RN Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
 Pre-operative patient assessment and preparation
 Admission and discharge processes
 Post-anesthesia recovery care
 Recovery of patients following moderate sedation procedures
 PACU support and assisting as needed within the perioperative environment
 Patient and family education
Note: The department does not administer moderate sedation but does recover patients
following moderate sedation procedures.
Required Experience
Candidates should have:
 Recent Pre-Op and/or PACU experience
 Strong admission and discharge experience
 Experience caring for both adult and pediatric patients
 Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment with varied specialties
Certifications Required
 BLS
 ACLS
 PALS
Department Operations
 ASU operational hours: 5:00 AM – 8:30 PM, Monday–Friday
 Surgical services support a 24/7 hospital operation
 Weekend and holiday call coverage required
Scheduling
StaƯ rotate through a variety of shifts including:
 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM
Call Requirements
Required call rotation includes:
 Two 12-hour weekend call shifts every 8 weeks
 Call shift options:
o 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
o 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
 Holiday call rotation as assigned

Patterns Hiring Job ID #BHN-1411-02. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
