Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse in Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP)
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 1-3 patients
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital with 74 staffed beds
- Charting System: Epic
- Parking: Free
- Scrub Color: Navy
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Weekend Rotation: 4-6 weekend shifts plus 2 Fridays every 6 weeks
- Holiday Coverage: 1 major holiday (Thanksgiving or Christmas) and 1-2 minor holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day)
- On-Call: 2 mandatory on-call shifts per 6-week period
- Floating: RN expected to float within LDRP unit scope (triage, c-section including circulating, antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum) and provide full couplet care; may float between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Locals: Not accepted; home must be at least 75 miles from facility
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID (Driver’s License/State ID) required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, education verification, and international searches if applicable
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
- Primary source verification of Missouri RN license via NURSYS
- Unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
- Fit mask (N95) testing required annually; must be able to shave facial hair if needed for proper fit
- Immunizations and titers required or accepted with exemptions for:
- Tdap (or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2-step PPD or equivalent)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer, vaccines, or MD statement)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption during flu season (Sept-April)
- Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and regulatory compliance education (annual)
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Employment application and two professional references required (supervisors preferred; specific reference requirements for RNFAs)
- Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start
Additional Notes
- Guaranteed minimum of 3 shifts over the 13-week contract
- Must be able to work night shifts exclusively
- Facility births fewer than 100 per month; Level I nursery
- Work settings include antepartum, LDRP, postpartum, and community hospital environment
- Epic electronic medical record system used for charting
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift role in a community hospital setting with a comprehensive scope of maternal-newborn care.
