Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (L&D RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Provide specialized Labor & Delivery nursing care.
- May float to Emergency Department (ED) at a nearby hospital to assist with OB-specific care alongside a primary RN (no primary assignment in ED).
- On first ED shift, arrive 30 minutes early for orientation.
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Guaranteed hours vary by shift pattern (36-48 hours/week depending on schedule).
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- Experience with Cerner electronic health record system.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
- AWHONN Intermediate Course (specific to OB nursing).
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Indiana (IN) required.
- Note: Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers.
Additional Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy required).
- Background checks including 7-year history, criminal, sex offender registry, and education verification.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators).
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Required vaccinations or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella.
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted).
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific competency.
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment with supervisory titles.
- Current employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance documents prior to start.
Facility & Work Environment
- Short-term acute care hospital setting.
- Labor & Delivery unit with high patient volume.
- Charting via Cerner electronic health record.
- Free parking available.
Important Notes
- Locals are not accepted for this travel position.
- Floating to ED requires OB-specific care support only.
- Must be willing to work major holidays as scheduled.
- Facility-specific orientation and compliance paperwork are time-sensitive and must be completed prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery RNs with strong OB skills seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity hospital environment.
