Registered Nurse – PCU Float (Travel/Contract)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with float responsibilities across Medical-Surgical/Telemetry units including Emergency Department inpatient holds
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 – 07:15)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Accepted
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Additional Job Requirements

  • Must float within scope to all Medical-Surgical/Telemetry units including Emergency Department inpatient holds
  • Holiday shifts and charge nurse assignments as needed
  • On-call: Not applicable

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
    • Education verification of highest nursing degree
    • State-specific searches and registries as applicable
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Drug testing within 1 year, including comprehensive drug panel
    • Fit mask testing (N95) annually, with specific mask models accepted
    • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, TB testing (2 negative PPDs or equivalent), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (with boosters or declination if applicable)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Facility-Specific Documents:
    • Photo for badge (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
    • HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, regulatory compliance education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
    • Orientation modules completed through online platform (approx. 16 hours) prior to start
  • Competency Exams:
    • Unit-specific competency exam annually
    • Medication/pharmacology competency exam
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (new contracts only)
    • Oncology competency exam for Med Surg-Oncology unit (if applicable)
  • References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
