Unit Details

Unit: Cardiac stepdown unit
Bed count: 18
Patient ratio: 4:1
Shift staffing: Day shift typically has 5 RNs, 1 charge clinician, and 2 patient care technicians; night shift typically has 5 nurses and 1 patient care technician
Floating: Telemetry and med surg

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Virginia
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
BLS
ACLS
Cardiac Stepdown (2 years of experience)
Cardiac Stepdown experience within the last year
PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience
Telemetry experience

Preferred Qualifications

Stepdown experience
Cardiac knowledge

Schedule / Work Expectations

Every other weekend
Overtime available

Unit Environment

Uses central lines, PCA, Foley catheters, chest tubes, pacer wires, telemetry, and drains
Common procedures include CABG, valve replacement, TAVR, Mitral clip, thoracotomy, and care for Afib, CHF, and MI
Common cardiac drips include Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, and nitro
Dress code: all navy scrubs
