Job Description
The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing all necessary checks of diagnosis, prescription, Epic order, and patient identification. This role involves greeting patients, confirming their identification, explaining procedures, obtaining patient history, addressing concerns, and placing angiocatheters for IV contrast as directed. The technologist operates the MRI scanner and associated equipment to produce high-quality images and ensures compliance with safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform necessary checks of diagnosis and patient identification as demonstrated by documentation.
- Greet patients and explain procedures, confirming their understanding and consent.
- Obtain patient history and screen for surgeries and implanted items.
- Place angiocatheters and inject IV MRI contrast agents as directed.
- Operate the MRI scanner and associated equipment to produce high-quality images.
- Archive and verify MRI images as needed.
- Conduct quality assurance testing consistent with section protocols.
- Monitor patient status, tolerance, and wellbeing throughout procedures.
- Aid radiologists and doctors in completing procedures according to applicable protocol.
- Comply with OSHA, TJC, DOH, and other mandated safety procedures or regulations.
- Maintain necessary inventory supplies for the assigned workstation.
- Respond to emergency situations according to department policies.
- Establish good working relationships with team members and external clients.
- Communicate equipment problems and image quality issues effectively.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduate of an approved Radiologic and/or MRI Resonance technology program.
- ARRT certification in MRI is required.
- MRI Certification is required.
- CT Certification is preferred.
