Job Description & Requirements
Occupational Therapist - School - (OT - School)
StartDate: 8/4/2026 Available Shifts: 7.5 D Pay Rate: $2087.00 - $2151.00

This travel Occupational Therapist opportunity is based in DeKalb, Illinois, a friendly and dynamic community that blends the energy of a college town with the comfort and accessibility of a smaller city. DeKalb offers a welcoming atmosphere, an affordable cost of living, and easy access to both outdoor recreation and cultural amenities. You will find local parks, trails, and community events, along with restaurants, coffee shops, and entertainment anchored by the nearby university. DeKalb’s location provides convenient access to larger metro areas, including the broader Chicagoland region, while maintaining a relaxed, community-oriented feel. The position is school-based, serving students in elementary and middle school grade levels. You will support a mix of resource and self-contained classrooms, providing meaningful, student-centered Occupational Therapy services that help children participate more fully in their school day. The district is part of a community that values education and student support, offering a collaborative environment where therapists are respected members of the educational team. This full-time travel assignment runs from 8/3 through 5/28/2027, with an expected 37.5 hours per week. The typical schedule is based on a 7.5-hour workday aligned with the school calendar, with specific calendar days to be determined by the district. You can expect to work standard school hours, Monday through Friday, with evenings and weekends free to enjoy the local area and nearby attractions. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive evaluations and re-evaluations for students referred for Occupational Therapy, including those receiving services in resource and self-contained settings. Your daily responsibilities will include developing and implementing individualized treatment plans and IEP goals, delivering direct and consultative OT services, and monitoring progress throughout the school year. You will collaborate closely with teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and families to support students’ functional skills in the classroom, on the playground, and across the school environment. You may work across one or more school sites within the district, depending on caseload needs. The caseload will focus on elementary and middle school students with a variety of needs, including fine motor and handwriting difficulties, sensory processing challenges, self-care skill development, and support for students with developmental, neurological, or physical disabilities. The mix of resource and self-contained classrooms offers opportunities to tailor interventions to both inclusive general education environments and more structured special education settings. A typical day may include completing student assessments, providing individual and small-group OT sessions, consulting with teachers about classroom accommodations, updating documentation in the district’s electronic systems, and participating in team or IEP meetings as scheduled. You will be expected to maintain thorough and timely documentation, communicate effectively with school staff and families, and contribute to a positive, student-focused school culture. This assignment provides the opportunity to gain or deepen experience in school-based practice over multiple school years, allowing you to see the meaningful impact of your work over time. DeKalb’s strong sense of community, combined with the chance to support students across elementary and middle school levels, makes this a rewarding role for an Occupational Therapist who enjoys collaboration, pediatric practice, and the school environment.

Pros

My wife and I have been traveling for almost 5 years now and we have worked with many recruiters. Eleni is our absolute favorite recruiter we’ve ever worked with. She’s friendly, kind, understanding, organized, and timely. She’s is everything you want to look for when choosing a recruiter. As a pair, it is naturally harder for us to find jobs, so having a recruiter like her to go the extra mile to find us that perfect fit is so appreciated. We are so glad to have connected with her on our travel journey!
