This Radiology Technician position offers an opportunity to practice across both CT and X-ray modalities in a dynamic Emergency Department environment. Located in Chester, Virginia, this role places you in a welcoming community with convenient access to the greater Richmond area. Chester and the surrounding Chesterfield County region are known for their blend of suburban comfort and vibrant activity, with local parks, scenic trails, and historic landmarks. You can enjoy outdoor recreation along the James River, explore Civil War battlefields and cultural sites, and take advantage of nearby dining, shopping, and entertainment options. The proximity to Richmond provides easy access to museums, festivals, sports, and a growing food and arts scene, all while living in a more relaxed, community-oriented setting. In this role, you will work primarily weekend nights, Friday through Sunday, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. You will also take call approximately three times per month and work every other major holiday as part of the core team supporting 24/7 coverage. The unit primarily serves Emergency Department patients, with a smaller volume of scheduled or add-on outpatient studies. Typical scan volumes can range widely from about 5 to 20 scans per shift, depending on ED census and acuity, allowing you to maintain a strong skill set in both CT and X-ray while adapting to changing patient needs. The imaging department utilizes GE CT scanners and GE X-ray equipment, offering you the chance to leverage and deepen your GE experience. You will be expected to operate the equipment independently, perform high-quality diagnostic imaging studies, and adhere strictly to radiation safety and infection control standards. As a key member of the night and weekend care team, you will coordinate with emergency physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to prioritize urgent imaging, support rapid diagnosis, and facilitate timely patient care. You will manage a full workflow from patient identification and screening through image acquisition, post-processing when needed, and ensuring images are transmitted correctly to PACS for radiologist interpretation. Your typical shift will involve triaging imaging requests from the Emergency Department, positioning and preparing patients for CT and X-ray exams, reviewing orders for appropriateness, and confirming necessary labs or contraindications when required. You will practice safe and compassionate patient care, explaining procedures, assisting with patient transfers, and ensuring comfort and privacy throughout the imaging experience. You will also manage documentation in the electronic medical record and radiology systems, track and complete exams, and communicate results availability to the clinical team. This is a role for a Radiology Technician who is comfortable working independently, especially during off-hours, and who thrives in an environment where every scan can make a time-sensitive difference in patient outcomes.
