Job Description & Requirements
Speech & Language Pathologist - Rehab - (SLP)
StartDate: 7/20/2026 Available Shifts: 8 D Pay Rate: $1977.00 - $2037.00

This Speech-Language Pathologist opportunity is based in Tacoma, Washington, a scenic city on the Puget Sound known for its vibrant waterfront, walkable downtown, and easy access to some of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic outdoor destinations. Located just south of Seattle, Tacoma offers a blend of urban amenities and natural beauty, with views of Mount Rainier, nearby state parks, and a thriving arts and cultural scene. Tacoma is home to renowned museums and attractions, including the Museum of Glass, Tacoma Art Museum, and the Washington State History Museum, all situated along the city’s revitalized waterfront. Residents enjoy a variety of restaurants, cafes, local breweries, and year-round events, creating a lively community atmosphere. The city’s location in Western Washington provides a moderate climate, excellent access to hiking, skiing, and water activities, and convenient travel options to nearby cities and coastal destinations. The role is within a modern healthcare environment that offers comprehensive rehabilitation services for both inpatient and outpatient populations. The facility emphasizes high-quality, patient-centered care and supports a collaborative, multidisciplinary team model. You will work closely with physicians, nursing staff, occupational and physical therapists, social workers, and case managers to deliver coordinated, evidence-based treatment. Depending on the specific unit or service line, primary responsibilities may include evaluating and treating patients with speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders across the continuum of care. Typical caseloads may include individuals with stroke, traumatic brain injury, degenerative neurological conditions, post-surgical needs, and other medically complex diagnoses. You will conduct comprehensive assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, document progress, and participate in care conferences and discharge planning. The position may encompass a mix of acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and/or outpatient services, offering a diverse clinical experience and opportunities to develop or refine specialty skills. You may perform bedside swallow evaluations and collaborate with radiology teams for instrumental swallow assessments, when available. Education for patients, families, and caregivers is a key component of the role, as is participation in ongoing quality improvement and adherence to current best practices. A typical day involves managing a structured caseload, coordinating schedules with the broader care team, and ensuring timely, accurate documentation within the electronic medical record. Patient volumes and ratios are designed to support safe, high-quality care while allowing for thorough assessments and individualized treatment sessions. Shifts are generally day-shift oriented, with possible variations based on unit needs, weekend rotation, and holiday coverage as required by the department. This position is well-suited for an SLP seeking meaningful work in a supportive and collaborative environment, with the opportunity to develop professionally in a dynamic healthcare setting. Tacoma’s combination of a welcoming community, strong healthcare infrastructure, and rich cultural and outdoor opportunities makes it an attractive place to live and work.
