Description
General Information
Location: Asheville, NC
Unit Name: Critical Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
Number of Beds: 16
Patient Ratios: 2:1 or 1:1 (occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity)
Unit Staffing Description
- Registered Nurses (RNs) only; no Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) or Patient Care Technicians (PCT)
Equipment Used
- Ventilators
- Telemetry
- Baxter IV Pumps
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Impella devices
- Hypothermia equipment
Documentation System
Cerner
Scheduling Requirements
- 36 hours per week
- Alternating weekends
- 12-hour shifts
Floating Policy
Travelers may float to all areas as necessary.
Patient Experience Requirements
ICU experience is required.
Certifications
- No certifications required, though CCRN, IABP, Impella, and CRRT certifications are appreciated.
Requested Skill Set
- Titration of Vesicant Medications
- Familiarity with Pressors
- Administration of Sedation and Paralytics
- Experience with Ventilators and Trachs
- Telemetry interpretation
- Understanding of Hemodynamics and Pulmonary Artery Catheter setup and interpretation
- Transvenous pacing
- Cardioversion
- Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)
- Familiarity with chest tube insertions and maintenance
Advanced Skills (Desirable)
- IABP
- Impella
- CRRT
Procedures Performed on Unit
- Cardioversion
- Central line insertion
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
- Bronchoscopy
- Chest Tube insertions
- Pericardiocentesis
- Thoracentesis
Dress Code
Uniform requirements include:
- Navy and white scrubs only
- No pullovers or hoodies
- Green scrubs may only be worn when the uniform is soiled at work
