About the Role
This position involves providing high-quality care to patients in a Labor and Delivery unit within a Level III Trauma Center. The role requires expertise in managing a variety of patient situations, including labor and postpartum care, with a focus on maternal and neonatal health.
Facility Information
Location: Puyallup, WA
- Licensed Beds: 375
- Special Units: LDR, OB OR, OB PACU, Level II NICU, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby unit, and Perinatal Addiction unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.
- Conduct cervical examinations, administer epidurals, and monitor maternal-fetal health.
- Manage antepartum and postpartum care, supporting stable transitions for mothers and their newborns.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including OB-GYNs, midwives, and pediatric staff.
Patient Types
- Manage a variety of conditions, including hypertension, substance abuse management, and low-risk pregnancies.
- Care for patients with gestational ages of 32 weeks and above, with an average of 175-200 deliveries per month.
Patient Ratios
Follow AWHONN and NANN guidelines:
- 1:1 for active labor
- 1:2 for non-active labor
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience required.
- Current BLS and NRP certifications are required.
- Fetal monitoring certification (AWHONN or Relias module) is required.
Skills Required
- Strong Labor and Delivery experience, including the ability to perform cervical exams and fetal monitoring.
- Experience with IV administration and medication management, including Pitocin.
- Postpartum care experience, including basic breastfeeding support and couplet care.
Technology and Equipment
- Use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR): EPIC Stork, GE Centricity.
- Medication dispensing via Pyxis; familiarity required.
- Telemetry monitoring experience preferred.
Work Schedule
- Weekend rotations every other week.
- Shifts available: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700.
- Scheduling cycle is organized in 3-week increments.
- One major and one minor holiday commitment required annually.
