Description
Job Description
Join a team dedicated to providing exceptional care in a Level III Trauma Center with 375 licensed beds. We are seeking a Registered Nurse with strong labor and delivery experience to work in our comprehensive maternity unit, which includes multiple specialized areas such as labor and delivery, obstetric surgical suites, NICU, pediatrics, and mother/baby care.
Unit Information
- 9 Labor and Delivery Rooms
- 2 Obstetric Operating Rooms
- 2 Obstetric Post-Anesthesia Care Units
- 11 Level II NICU Beds
- 4 Pediatric Beds
- 20 Mother/Baby Beds
- 18 START Unit Beds for Perinatal Addiction
- 3 OB Emergency Department Beds (20 weeks and above)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide care for patients in various stages of labor and delivery, following AWHONN and NANN guidelines.
- Administer medications, including Pitocin and magnesium, for managing hypertension and substance abuse issues.
- Perform cervical exams, fetal monitoring, amnio infusion, and epidurals.
- Manage antepartum care, including continuous fetal monitoring as needed.
- Support postpartum care for mothers and newborns beyond the transition period of the first 24 hours.
- Counsel and assist with breastfeeding as well as couplet care once mother and baby are stabilized.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant nursing experience is required.
- Must possess a valid BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring certification (AWHONN or Relias module).
- Experience with IV initiation and maintenance of infusion therapies, particularly in labor and delivery settings.
- Knowledge of HUGS security systems is beneficial.
Support and Resources
- 24/7 availability of NICU attendants for infants 34 weeks gestation or less.
- Access to Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist services around the clock.
- Surgery technicians available Monday to Friday, though phasing out over time.
- Phlebotomy services accessible when needed.
Scheduling and Orientation
- Rotating weekends with a frequency of every other weekend.
- Schedule cycles are created in 3-week increments.
- Orientation includes completion of annual core competencies and unit-specific competency exams prior to starting.
- Shifts available are either from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
