Description
General Information
We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Clinical Interview Unit. This mixed acuity unit consists of 64 beds spread across two floors.
Patient Types
The unit cares for a diverse range of patients, including:
- Intermediate Care acuity
- Telemedicine and MedSurg patients
- Pre/post-surgical patients
- Patients with CVA, seizures, cellulitis, influenza, UTIs, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal failure, hepatic failure, gastrointestinal disorders, infections, soft tissue injuries, minor fractures, and DVTs.
Responsibilities
The role includes the following responsibilities:
- Medication administration including titratable vasoactive drips, TPN/tube feeding, and blood product transfusions.
- Peripheral IV, Midline, PICC and central line access, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, drains, and urinary and fecal collection devices.
- Wound care and care for telemetry-monitored patients.
- Support for post neuro-intervention patients, with education and resources available for those with less experience in this area.
Patient Ratios
The patient-to-nurse ratios are as follows:
- 1 RN for every 4 patients in PCU, even for MedSurg assignments.
- 1 Nurse Aide for every 8 patients.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required for PCU Level RN.
- Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in South Dakota.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
- Comfort in taking MedSurg assignments; candidates without this experience should decline.
Skills Required
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Previous experience with diverse patient types as outlined above.
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips.
- Wound care and management of various lines and tubes.
- Experience with drip titration; training provided for those lacking experience with specific medications.
Support on the Unit
The unit operates under a pod structure with 8 patients per pod. Each pod is staffed with 2 RNs and 1 Nurse Aide. Additional support includes:
- Flex Nurse available daily from 10 AM to 10 PM.
- Nurse Clinician support during varied hours.
Orientation and Training
The onboarding process includes:
- 2 days of unit/department orientation covering policies, protocols, and departmental information.
- Classroom time with the Nursing Professional Development Team.
- 2 orientation shifts on the unit with a preceptor.
Schedule and Expectations
Schedules will be provided on a 6-week basis and may require:
- Weekend rotations, with travelers potentially scheduled for up to 4 out of 6 weekends.
- Requests for time off to be submitted prior to the offer. Limited holiday time off is available, with blackout dates during specific events.
