Description

Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

The Labor and Delivery unit is dedicated to providing high-quality care to mothers and newborns. It features:

  • Number of Beds: 13
  • Number of Staff: 40
  • Patient Ratios: Primarily 1:1, adhering to AWHONN guidelines

Shift and Staffing Details

Staffing on the unit includes:

  • Day Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 3 RNs, 2 CNAs, and 1-3 sitters (minimum staffing is 1 Charge, 2 RNs, 1 CST)
  • Night Shift: Minimum staffing is 1 Charge, 2 RNs, 1 CST

Essential Qualifications

Must-have Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of current acute care Labor and Delivery RN experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications
  • Ability to circulate for C-sections

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with Meditech
  • Strong OB Triage skills

Typical Responsibilities

  • Triage and evaluate obstetric patients
  • Manage labor patients and oversee recovery for vaginal and C-section deliveries
  • Manage induction of labor using Cervidil, Cytotec, and Pitocin
