Description
Position Description
Join a dynamic team in a Cardiac Step Down unit. This role offers the opportunity to provide exceptional patient care in a fast-paced environment, focusing on cardiac patients with various health issues.
Unit Information
- Number of Beds: 30
- Patient Ratio: 6:1
- Unit Staffing: Unit clerk on days, 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) day & night, Nursing Supervisor, Hospitalists
- Type of Equipment: Welch Allyn vitals neuron, Novameter glucose, GE Telemetry, and Rover’s
- Documentation System: Meditech-HCA version
- Medications: WOW for all nurses, PyxisES dispensing system
Scheduling Requirements
Must be available for the equivalent of every other weekend, consisting of four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule.
Floating Policy
RNs may be required to float to other Medical/Surgical areas, including general Medical/Surgical, Orthopedics, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Medical/Surgical surgical with oncology, depending on skill mix needs.
Patient Experience Requirements
- Bedside rounding
- Hourly rounding with the 5 P’s checked
- Effective communication of known patient needs at the beginning and throughout shifts
- Utilize glass boards for department focus areas
- Access to a scrolling video kiosk and email for updates
Qualifications
- Requested Skill Set: Cardiac knowledge preferred
- Certifications Required: ACLS and BLS
- Advanced Skills Needed: Knowledge of Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips
- Procedures Performed: Chest Tube management, wound vac management, EKGs as needed
Dress Code
Registered Nurses are to wear navy scrubs. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) or Patient Care Technicians (PCT) may wear ceil blue scrub sets and jackets (if desired). T-shirts underneath may be white, blue, grey, orange, or black without graphics. Artificial or gel nails or gel nail polish are not permitted.
Unit Policies
- Documentation of telemetry application and rhythm strip acknowledgment in patient charts each shift.
- Adherence to a "No Pass Zone" policy for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms.
