Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a Med/Surg/Telemetry unit with a focus on patients with secondary psychiatric conditions. The ideal candidate will possess strong Med/Surg and Telemetry skills, as well as a willingness to work with individuals facing mental health challenges.
Unit Information
- Unit Name: Visual Monitor Unit (VMU)
- Number of Beds: 14
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:4
- Common Diagnoses: Confused patients, dementia, low cognitive ability
- EMR System: Cerner
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 7 AM - 7 PM
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
- Holidays: Rotation as per unit coverage
- Scrub Color: Navy
Responsibilities
- Monitor patients in a telemetry setting and provide essential nursing care.
- Perform nursing skills competently, including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes.
- Participate in a pass/fail SIMs Lab to demonstrate proficiency in skills.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare team members, including behavior health techs and security staff.
- Utilize video monitoring for patient safety and security.
- Educate patients and their families regarding care needs and treatment plans.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 18 months of relevant nursing experience preferred.
- Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center is required.
- ACLS and BLS certifications are necessary.
- Telemetry and Med/Surg experience required; psychiatric experience preferred.
- Ability to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance. Candidates have two attempts.
Team and Support
- Behavior Health Techs: Assist nursing staff in patient care and safety monitoring.
- Security: Monitors the unit through video surveillance.
- IV Team: Available as needed for patient support.
- Pharmacy: Available 24/7 for medication management.
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7 for patient needs.

- Orientation includes floor-specific training lasting 2 shifts.
- Cancellation policy: Hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts for 13-week assignments.
