Unit Overview

The Clinical Decision Unit (D2) is a fast-paced setting focused on efficiently receiving admitted patients from the Emergency Department (ED), conducting admission assessments, managing medication reconciliations, and initiating acute care orders. Our primary goal is to enhance patient throughput and reduce overall length of stay while ensuring a superior patient and family experience.

Unit Details

• Number of Beds: 40
• Patient Ratios: 1:5 Step-Down / 1:6 MedSurg (1:5 if combined, day and night)
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Scrub Color: Navy Blue/White or combination of both
• Staffing: Typically 1-2 CNAs based on volume; goal is to maintain a charge-free environment

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients across a range of diagnoses.
• Assist with patient admissions, completing assessments and medication reconciliations effectively.
• Collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to ensure best practices in patient care and safety.
• Participate in floating to other units within skill set as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in MedSurg, Telemetry (remote), and Step-Down (PCU) nursing.
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
• Charge nurse experience is appreciated.
• Strong teamwork skills and a positive attitude towards patient safety and care.
