Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the GI Lab / Endoscopy is responsible for providing professional nursing care to a designated group of patients. The RN uses the nursing process, therapeutic communication, and collaboration with the healthcare team to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered care. The nurse is accountable for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care according to established standards and core nursing values.
Key Responsibilities
Nursing Process
- Perform ongoing, systematic patient assessments focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive status.
- Analyze assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses.
- Identify individualized expected patient outcomes.
- Develop and prioritize goal-directed plans of care.
- Identify and address patient and family learning needs.
- Implement nursing care skillfully and consistently.
- Document care accurately and timely in patient records.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of care and adjust plans as needed.
Professional Performance
- Maintain awareness and application of safety protocols.
- Respond efficiently and calmly in emergency situations following protocols.
- Demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and decision-making for patient populations served.
- Adhere to Medical Center, Division of Nursing, and Unit policies and procedures.
- Incorporate hourly rounding into daily practice.
- Take responsibility and accountability for professional practice.
- Manage legal and ethical aspects of patient care.
- Participate actively in staff development and continuing education.
- Foster effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
- Remain flexible with staffing and conflict resolution.
- Respect patient rights and provide ethical care.
- Stay informed of current nursing research and apply findings as appropriate.
- Prioritize patient care based on needs and available resources.
Required Certifications and Credentials
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – American Heart Association only
- State Nursing License Verification – Must be current and verified within 30 days prior to start
- Arnot Skills Checklist – Unit-specific, updated annually
- Arnot Core Competency Exam – Must score 80% or higher
- Fit Test – Must be completed within the last 12 months; specific approved mask models required
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) Immunity – Positive titer or vaccination series required
- Hepatitis B Immunity – Positive antibody titer, vaccination series, or Arnot-specific declination form required
- TB Test – Annual testing required with specific timing and follow-up protocols for positives
- Varicella Immunity – Positive titer or vaccination series required
- Tdap Vaccine – Preferred within last 10 years or Arnot-specific declination form
- Physical/Health Statement – Completed within last 12 months, including vitals and vision screening
- Agency Background Check – Must include criminal and employment history checks within last 7 years
- Agency Drug Screen – Must test for specified substances; marijuana testing is prohibited per NY state law
- Driver’s License or State ID – Valid and unexpired
- Arnot Color Headshot – Professional photo required
Additional Requirements
- Completion of Arnot-specific documentation including job description acknowledgment, employment verification, professional references, and internal background checks.
- Compliance with Arnot Health policies including Code of Conduct, Sexual Harassment Acknowledgement, and Parking Registration.
- Participation in Arnot’s self-study and competency quizzes.
- COVID-19 vaccination proof or agency declination (optional).
- Influenza vaccine or declination with mask-wearing requirement (optional).
