Travel RN – Emergency Department (ED/ER)
Location: Springfield, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Specialty: Emergency Department (ED/ER)
- Shift: Days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
- Number of Openings: 1
- Weekend Hours: As required by facility
- Call Requirements: None
- Block schedule and holiday RTO (request time off) cannot be accommodated; only one holiday RTO allowed per assignment and must be made up later.
Licensure & Certifications
- Current RN license eligible for or issued by the state of Missouri
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – all from American Heart Association only
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) – may be submitted without but must be obtained prior to start
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year Emergency Department experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center OR
- 2 years Emergency Department experience in a Level 2 Trauma Center
- Must be indicated on resume
- Preferred: Experience with trauma/pediatrics, high acuity, and high patient volume (200+ patients/day)
Unit & Patient Information
- Unit Type: Emergency Department in a busy urban Level 1 Trauma Center
- Number of Beds: 68
- Patient Ratios: Typically 4:1; may vary during surge or other circumstances (ratios not guaranteed)
- Patient Population: Level 1 Trauma, Stroke, STEMI, and Regional Burn Center patients
- EMR System: EPIC
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk most of the time on duty
- Lift and push patients on stretchers and wheelchairs
- Work in a clean, air-conditioned environment
- Physical demands include pushing, pulling, gripping up to 50 lbs., pinching up to 15 lbs., minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling
Professional Expectations
- Utilize nursing process for patient care: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Maintain professional accountability and patient confidentiality
- Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments
- Adhere to Missouri Nurse Practice Act and facility’s code of conduct, mission, and values
- Demonstrate strong communication and clinical expertise

Additional Notes
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1 (no declinations accepted)
- Night shift orientation occurs on day shift and requires availability for the entire week
