Description

Travel RN – Pediatric ICU (PICU)

Location: Springfield, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Pediatric ICU (PICU)
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
  • Number of Openings: 1
  • Weekend Hours: As required by facility
  • Call Requirements: No regular call; may need to stay until end of shift for possible admits if sent home early due to low census
  • Float Requirements: Must be able to float to NICU, PICU, Pediatric medical floor, or Pediatric ED based on patient volume

Licensure & Certifications

  • Required Licensure: Current RN license eligible or active in Missouri
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) from AHA only
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or PCAR (Pediatric Care After Resuscitation)
  • Preferred Certification: ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of PICU experience post-orientation
  • Ventilator competency required
  • Must demonstrate clinical expertise in PICU nursing
  • Strong communication and human relations skills

Unit Information

  • Unit: Pediatric ICU, 12 beds
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Vented/critical patients: 1:1
    • ICU status: 2:1
    • Floor status: 3:1
    • Ratios vary based on patient acuity
  • Patient Types: Respiratory, Surgical, Trauma/Burn, Neurosurgical, Sepsis, Hematology/Oncology, Endocrinology
  • EMR System: EPIC

Orientation & Work Environment

  • Night shift orientation occurs on day shift and requires full week availability
  • Physical demands include standing and walking most of the shift, lifting and pushing patients (up to 50 lbs), and occasional kneeling or crouching
  • Work environment is typically clean and air-conditioned

Dress Code

  • Scrubs: Black scrub pants with black scrub tops or pediatric-appropriate t-shirts
  • Other attire is not acceptable

Additional Requirements

  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for travel period November 1 – April 1 (declinations not accepted)
