Description
Job Opportunity: RN Surgery (LTA)
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Specialty: Registered Nurse - Surgery
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Rotating shifts: 4x10 hour shifts (0900-1900 or 1000-2000), flexible based on OR volume
- Call: 1-2 weeknights and every 4th weekend, rotating with regular staff
- Holiday call hours required
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 2 years OR experience
- Robotic surgery experience preferred
- Scrub nurse experience helpful
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
- Prior travel nurse experience preferred
- Ability to float onsite within skill set or to other sites within 40 miles if needed
Required Credentials & Onboarding Requirements
Licenses & Certifications
- Current nursing license verified via Nursys within 30 days prior to start
- BLS certification (AHA required)
- License/certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
Health & Immunizations
- Completed health statement or physical exam prior to assignment, updated annually
- Ascension Color Vision test completed prior to start and updated every 3 years
- Fit test (N95 respirator) preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite; annual update required
- Documentation of:
- Two MMR vaccines or positive titer (no declinations accepted)
- Two Varicella vaccines, serological immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza vaccine during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
- Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- 2-step PPD or IGRA testing with annual TB questionnaire; if positive, chest X-ray within 1 year required
- 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
Testing & Competencies
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics) completed within 1 year, minimum 80% score
- Ascension EKG Exam with passing score of 80%, two attempts allowed
- Ascension Specialty Exam completed prior to first assignment and updated every 3 years, minimum 80% or national benchmark
- Ascension Epic Test-Out: Epic test results and training checklist with signed attestation required
- Ascension Skills Checklist completed within 1 year of start, updated annually for specialty
Onboarding & Documentation
- Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (done onsite)
- Ascension Onboarding Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training)
- Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules for non-allied positions
- Ascension Badge Photo (forward-facing headshot, white or blue background, no filters)
- Professional references: at least two required prior to first assignment
- Criminal background check including SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender registry, updated annually
- Employment and education verifications completed within 90 days of start and updated annually
- Driver’s license or state ID (must be current and match address on file)
- Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and each extension
Additional Notes
- May be required to float to other sites within 40 miles based on need
- Holiday and weekend call rotation with regular staff
- Must comply with all Ascension Health onboarding and credentialing requirements prior to start
