Position Overview

Job Description

• Provide care to Intensive Care patients using the Nursing Process in accordance with state Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, scientific judgment, and leadership for safe delivery of care.
• Maintain clinical competencies through continuing education.
• Delegate patient care priorities based on staff education and experience.
• Provide direction and supervision to assigned personnel.
• Floating to Telemetry units depending on census and need.
• Work schedule includes every other weekend and on-call as needed.
• Minimum 3+ years ICU experience required.
• Travel nursing experience required.

Required Certifications & Licenses

• California RN License
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)

Preferred Certifications (Not mandatory)

• IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump)
• Impella
• PIRRT (Prolonged Intermittent Renal Replacement Therapy)

Background & Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 6 months of start.
• Education verification required (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred).
• Sex offender search within 90 days of start.
• FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required annually.
• Transcript/Diploma verification as needed.
• Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
• References: 2 professional references required (Aya requirement, not client).
• Full 7 years of work history required with no gaps.

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
• Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days, renewed annually.
• Immunity or vaccination for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (series or declination)
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination.
• Color blind exam if applicable (in-person exam only).
• Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually.

Competency Exams

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable.
• Competency exam with minimum passing score of 80% (or Angoff score if higher).
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for some Telemetry units.
