Registered Nurse (Pediatric) - Travel/Contract

Location: Decatur, Illinois
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level II Trauma Center
Unit: Pediatric, 11 rooms, 16 beds
Shift: Nights (1800-0630)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years pediatric nursing experience
• First-time travelers accepted
• Must have active Illinois nursing license or active application with ETA
• BLS and PALS certifications required (AHA or RQI acceptable)
• ACLS required based on unit/specialty
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• No on-call required
• Must be willing to float within scope as needed
• Open to block scheduling (discuss with manager)
• Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
• RTO (Return to Office) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days

Clinical Skills & Experience Required

• Pediatric MedSurg and Pediatric Step Down/Telemetry experience
• Endocrine/Metabolic: Hyperbilirubinemia, insulin administration
• Gastrointestinal: Breastfeeding support, handling breast milk, feedings (bottle, breast, gavage), oral/nasogastric tube placement
• IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Peripheral line care/management, starting and maintaining IVs
• Medications/Emergency: Pediatric dosage calculations
• Respiratory: Oral/nasal suctioning, oxygen delivery systems
• Professional skills: Infection prevention, isolation precautions, wound assessment/care
• EMR experience required (Cerner charting)

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

• Valid US Driver’s License or State ID
• Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years (including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
• Illinois-specific searches (Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, State Police Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registry) within 30 days prior to start
• Illinois Health Care Worker Registry search and fingerprinting (must be done in Illinois, 3 business days prior to start) for candidates without IL license
• Education verification (degree/transcript/diploma)
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, Tech Cert Verification, Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement, State License verification, NURSYS verification
• Competency exam required for all clinical/allied candidates
• Badge photo required within one week of signing contract
• Code of Conduct acknowledgment within 7 days of contract signing
• Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by 11/30
• Physical exam within one year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
• Fit mask test required (3M 1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+), except for PAPR users
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year of start
• TB questionnaire updated annually
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Two professional references required for direct travel, allied, per diem, acute care candidates
• Skills checklist required for clinical/allied candidates

Additional Notes

• Candidate may be called off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay for those hours
• If placed on-call instead of called off, that counts as a called-off shift
• Facility accommodates latex allergies
