Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Virginia, Accomac

Job Overview

Job Description

  • Must have at least 1 year of experience in skilled home health care, including wound care and patient teaching.
  • Caseload: Approximately 6 patients per day.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Infection control
    • Communication of patient status changes to RN/MD
    • Pain assessment and management
    • Pharmacy calls and patient refill requests
    • Vital sign monitoring
    • Wound care
    • Teaching medications and treatments

Requirements

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
  • Valid and current driver’s license required for all Home Health positions.
  • Locals to the area are allowed to apply.

Certifications & Competencies

  • Current BLS certification (online CPR not accepted).
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, EFM certifications may be required depending on unit (check with program management).
  • CEUs related to stroke education required annually for acute care RNs (varies by unit).
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam and other competency exams as applicable.
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for all clinical positions.
  • State nursing license verification required.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within the last 12 months.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the last 12 months; if positive, clearance letter required.
  • Required vaccinations or proof of immunity for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31) with medical or religious exemptions accepted upon approval.
  • Drug screening within the last 12 months.
  • COVID-19 vaccination preferred but not required; if vaccinated, documentation or declination form required.

Background & Documentation

  • 7-year criminal background check required and updated annually.
  • DMV driving record required for Home Health & Hospice positions.
  • Two professional references required.
  • Employment application/resume required.
  • Skills checklist must be updated annually.
  • Virginia State Police background check required prior to start for Home Health positions.
  • Photo for badge must meet facility requirements.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including confidentiality, dress code, scrub colors, safety brochure, drug-free policy, and hand washing hygiene.
  • Some documents and certifications may require annual updates.
  • Orientation includes computer-based learning (CBL) with pass/fail testing.
