Intensive Care Registered Nurse (RN) - Brooklyn, NY
Position Overview
- Provide direct patient care utilizing the nursing process.
- Responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating care for assigned patients.
- Deliver care based on established nursing standards, hospital policies, and multidisciplinary practices.
- Diagnose and treat human responses to actual and potential health problems through case finding, health teaching, counseling, and supportive/restorative care.
- Supervise care provided by LPNs, RNs on permit, nursing attendants, technicians, and supplemental staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess immediate and ongoing care needs of patients and their significant others.
- Develop comprehensive, current care plans addressing physical, psychosocial, spiritual needs, patient teaching, and discharge planning.
- Provide and oversee direct patient care according to assessed needs and medical regimen.
- Observe, evaluate, document, and communicate patient responses to illness and treatments; ensure timely reassessment.
- Coordinate overall care plan implementation, establish care priorities with multidisciplinary team, and ensure age-specific care needs are met.
- Accept accountability for nursing interventions and outcomes based on clinical judgment.
- Participate in quality improvement activities related to patient care and nursing standards.
- Communicate effectively, manage stressful situations, and facilitate interdisciplinary relationships.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in orientation of nursing staff.
- Assume charge nurse responsibilities as delegated.
- Assist with patient coverage and work on other units as needed.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Serve as a clinical resource for student nurses.
- Engage in meetings, committees, educational programs, research, and pilot projects.
- Pursue continuing professional growth, including education and certifications.
- Participate in professional and community organizations.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Qualifications
- Education: BSN required.
- Experience: 3-5 years in a Level I or II Trauma Center preferred; no experience required but some preferred.
- Certifications: TCAR, BLS, ACLS, PALS, AHA Stroke certification required.
- Skills: Competent in CRRT machine operation, ventilator/tracheostomy and gastrostomy tube care, medication titration, and arterial lines (A-lines).
- Preferred Certifications: CRRT, CCRN, TCRN.
Additional Skills
- Ability to fully utilize electronic health record systems and relevant healthcare/billing systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
