Registered Nurse - Mother Baby (Contract)
Location: New York, NY

Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to women and newborns in a Mother Baby unit, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care using Relationship Centered Care principles and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs, applying critical thinking in care management.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team on care planning and evaluation.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Initiate service recovery and escalate patient/family concerns appropriately.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Implement process improvement and evidence-based strategies.
- Participate in peer and institutional reviews.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply utilization and inventory with nursing leadership.
- Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
- Apply cost-effective approaches to patient care resources.
- Document thoroughly in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Qualifications & Skills
- Current New York State RN License
- BLS Certification
- Minimum 2 years RN experience, including postpartum and antepartum care
- 1 year travel nursing experience preferred (not required for Per Diem)
- EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred
- Experience working in units with an average census of ~17 patients and 23 beds per unit
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
