Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Minimum 1 year experience in skilled home health care, including wound care and patient teaching
• Caseload: Approximately 6 patients per day
• Responsibilities include:

  • Wound care
  • Pain assessment and management
  • Vital sign monitoring
  • Communication of patient status changes to RN/MD
  • Pharmacy calls and patient refill requests
  • Teaching medications and treatments
• Locals to the area are eligible to apply
• Required certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Infection control practices required

Required Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (Basic Life Support): Current certification required; online CPR not accepted
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit or specialty (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) – verify with program management if unclear
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam and other competency exams as applicable, to be completed within one year of start date
• Annual CEUs related to stroke education may be required depending on unit
• Pass/Fail testing (e.g., EKG/Medication) administered during orientation

Background & Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
• DMV driving record required for home health positions; minimum 3 years driving experience, minimum age 21 (25 if transporting patients)
• Virginia State Police Check required prior to start for home health positions
• Drug screen within the last 12 months
• Physical exam within the last 12 months
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the last 12 months; if positive, clearance letter required
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless approved medical or religious exemption
• COVID-19 vaccination preferred but not required; if vaccinated, documentation or declination form required

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Photo for badge meeting specific guidelines (recent, professional, neutral background, no hats/headphones, etc.)
• Signed confidentiality agreement
• Review and sign scrub color, safety brochure, dress code, drug-free policy, and hand washing hygiene policies prior to start
• Sworn disclosure and other documentation required for home health and hospice positions, updated annually
• TB questionnaire updated annually
