Travel RN Step Down Nurse Opportunity
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Specialty: RN Step Down (PCU / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care)

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Schedule: Every Other Week (EOW) and Every Other Holiday (EOH)
- Requires 2 years of experience in PCU, Med-Surg, Telemetry, or Acute Care
- Placement on unit with greatest need: PCU, Med-Surg, or Telemetry based on skills
- Accepts RN with Med-Surg or Stepdown credentials (same credentialing for both)
- Must be willing to float onsite within skill set or to other sites within 40 miles if needed
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- Current RN license with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
- License/Certificate verification within 30 days prior to start
- Driver’s License/State ID (valid, must match address requirements)
Required Exams, Training & Competencies
- Ascension Color Vision test (completed prior to start, updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within a year of start, updated yearly, minimum 80% score)
- NIH Certification (updated yearly or every 2 years depending on group)
- Ascension EKG Exam (passing score of at least 80%, two attempts allowed)
- Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% or national benchmark, two attempts allowed)
- Ascension Epic Test-Out (training and test results required)
- Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills, completed within one year of start, updated annually)
- Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen (within 30 days prior to start, updated annually)
Onboarding & Professional Requirements
- Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
- Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (done onsite)
- Ascension Nova StatStrip (pre-hire modules for non-allied positions)
- Ascension Badge Photo (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background)
- Ascension Profile (resume or professional profile)
- Ascension 2 Professional References (at least two professional references)
- Ascension Criminal Background Check (7-year search, updated annually or if break in service > 90 days)
- Ascension EPLS (Exclusionary Provider List System) check within 90 days of start
- Ascension Education Verification (within 90 days of start, updated if break in service > 90 days)
- Ascension Confirmation of Assignment (agency letterhead with start/end dates)
- Ascension Employment Verification (third-party verification for past 7 years, updated annually or if break in service > 90 days)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
- Fit Test: Required for all travelers, preferred prior to start, updated annually
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza Vaccine: Required for flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
- Positive PPD / Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire (must provide positive IGRA or PPD results, chest x-ray within 1 year, TB questionnaire updated annually)
- 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) within required timeframes
- Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted)
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years, no declinations accepted
- Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
Additional Notes
- Must complete all required documentation and verifications prior to or at onboarding as specified
- Floating to other units or nearby sites may be required based on staffing needs
- Compliance with all Ascension Health policies and credentialing requirements is mandatory
