Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to oncology patients based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans, educate patients and families, and ensure a high standard of patient experience and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver care using Relationship Centered Care principles and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs; apply critical thinking in care management.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team on care planning and evaluation.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Address patient/family concerns and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Implement process improvement and evidence-based strategies.
- Participate in peer and institutional review processes.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards according to protocol.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource utilization.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
- Maintain thorough and compliant documentation.

Qualifications & Skills
- Current NYS RN License required.
- BLS certification required.
- Minimum 2 years RN experience, including medicine and chemotherapy.
- 1 year travel nursing experience preferred for travel positions (not required for per diem).
- EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; Associate degree considered with relevant experience or active BSN matriculation.
Work Environment
- Average unit census: 35 patients.
- Unit size: 36 beds.
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks (approximately 3 months).
