Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a group of patients within a designated timeframe. The RN is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, working collaboratively with the healthcare team and adhering to established standards and core nursing values.


Key Responsibilities

Nursing Process

  • Perform ongoing, systematic patient assessments focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses.
  • Identify individualized expected patient outcomes.
  • Develop prioritized, goal-directed care plans based on diagnoses and outcomes.
  • Identify and address patient and family learning needs.
  • Implement nursing care skillfully and consistently.
  • Document care accurately and timely in patient records.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care and adjust plans as needed.

Professional Performance

  • Maintain awareness and application of safety protocols.
  • Respond efficiently and calmly in emergency situations following protocols.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and decision-making for assigned patient populations.
  • Adhere to all Medical Center, Division of Nursing, and Unit policies and procedures.
  • Incorporate hourly rounding into daily practice.
  • Take accountability for professional practice and legal aspects of patient care.
  • Participate actively in staff development and education.
  • Foster effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Demonstrate ethical decision-making and respect patient rights.
  • Stay informed of current nursing research and apply findings as appropriate.
  • Prioritize patient care based on needs and available resources.

Required Credentials and Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association (AHA) only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – AHA only
  • State Nursing License Verification – Must be current and verified within 30 days prior to start
  • Arnot Skills Checklist – Unit-specific, fully complete, updated annually
  • Arnot Core Competency Exam – Must score 80% or higher on Core Competencies I, II, and III for RNs
  • Fit Test – Completed within last 12 months; must meet specified mask models; on-site fit testing available if needed
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) Immunity – Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series required with documentation
  • Hepatitis B Immunity – Positive antibody titer, 3 vaccine series, or Arnot-specific declination form required
  • Varicella Immunity – Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series required with documentation
  • Tdap Vaccine – Preferred within last 10 years or Arnot-specific declination form
  • Influenza Vaccine – Recommended; if declined, mask must be worn at all times on assignment
  • TB Test – Must have one of the following within last 12 months: 2 skin PPDs (one within 3 months), Quantiferon/Spot test, or chest X-ray if prior positive
  • Physical/Health Statement – Completed within last 12 months, including vitals and vision screening, with no restrictions
  • Driver’s License or State ID – Valid and unexpired
  • Agency Background Check – Completed within 30 days of start, including criminal and address trace checks
  • Agency Drug Screen – Completed within 30 days of start; marijuana testing prohibited per NY state regulations
  • Professional References – 1 supervisor reference from last 12 months and 1 supervisor or peer reference from last 3 years
  • Employment Verification – Verification of most recent employer required
  • Resume – Detailed employment and education history for last 7 years required
  • Arnot Job Description – Signed and dated acknowledgment required
  • Arnot Health Personal Information Form – Required
  • Arnot Health Code of Conduct – Required
  • Arnot Internal Background Check – Required upon acceptance
  • Arnot Confirmation of Assignment Form – Required
  • Arnot Self Study Packet Documentation and Quiz – Required
  • Arnot Sexual Harassment Acknowledgement – Required
  • Arnot Parking Registration Form – Required
  • Arnot Epic Questionnaire – Required

  • COVID-19 vaccine proof or agency declination is optional but recommended.
  • All credentials and documentation must be current and complete prior to onboarding.
