Job Description

Registered Nurse needed for the Emergency Room in Wichita, Kansas. This is a long-term assignment with a contract length of approximately 13 weeks.


Required Credentials and Certifications

Licenses & Professional Credentials (Must be current and verified within 30 days prior to start)

  • Current nursing license with primary source verification
  • Nursys verification
  • Driver's License or State ID (must not be expired and address must match)
  • Resume/Profile
  • At least two professional references
  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and EPLS (updated annually or if break in service > 90 days)
  • Education verification relevant to clinical work (within 90 days of start)
  • Employment verification for the past 7 years (updated annually or if break in service > 90 days)

Certifications (Must be AHA or equivalent where specified)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – renewed every 4 years
  • NIH Certification (Group A updated yearly; Groups B-F every 2 years)
  • CPI/MOAB High Risk Online Portion (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills or MOAB De-Escalation Course)

Testing & Competency Exams (Must be completed prior to or at onboarding)

  • Ascension Cerner Test-Out (Cerner test results and training checklist)
  • Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years)
  • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, updated yearly)
  • Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80% passing score, updated as of Dec 2023)
  • Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical specialty, updated annually)
  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training)
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (completed onsite)
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip Pre-Hire Modules (required for non-allied positions)

Health & Immunization Requirements (Must be current and documented)

  • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or verified history (no declinations accepted)
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Recent testing required with annual TB questionnaire
  • Positive PPD requires negative chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire
  • Fit Test: Required for all travelers, preferred prior to start; updated annually
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start and updated annually

Additional Information

  • Optional: Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (uploaded by unit leader within a week)
  • Optional: On-site portion of CPI/MOAB High-Risk training completed at orientation
  • Name change documentation and hiring manager evaluations are optional

This position requires thorough credentialing, testing, and health documentation to ensure compliance with Ascension Health standards and patient safety protocols.
