Cardiovascular Operating Room RN (Travel)

Position Overview

• Role: Registered Nurse (RN) in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
• Facility Department: Cardiovascular Operating Room
• Number of Openings: 1
• Shift: Daytime, 4x10 hour shifts (may vary with cases)
• Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
• Weekend Hours: On-call only
• Call Requirements: As needed
• Required Certifications: ACLS
• Experience Required: Minimum 2+ years in relevant specialty
• Float Requirements: None
• Unit Size: 18-room OR suite
• EMR System: EPIC (including OpTime)
• Dress Code: Black scrubs

Key Responsibilities

• Circulate Cardiothoracic and Vascular cases supporting 2 CV surgeons
• Cases include:

  • Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts (CABGs)
  • Lung surgeries (robotic and laparoscopic)
  • Endoscopic and open vascular cases
  • Carotid endarterectomies
  • Valve replacements
  • Aneurysm repairs
• Involve patients and families in care decisions
• Perform patient handoffs using safety tools (SBAR, bedside report)
• Maintain effective communication within the multidisciplinary team and chain of command
• Stay current with unit communications, competencies, and certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc.)
• Use evidence-based practice and professional literature in clinical decision-making
• Delegate and supervise unlicensed healthcare providers and LPNs according to scope of practice
• Interpret diagnostic, laboratory, and monitoring data appropriately
• Follow aseptic technique and maintain sterility consciousness
• Knowledgeable and proficient with Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgical equipment

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience with CABGs, lung surgeries (robotic and laparoscopic), vascular cases, carotid endarterectomies, valve replacements, and aneurysm repairs
• Proficient in EPIC charting tools, especially OpTime
• Strong communication skills and professional accountability
• Personality fit: Honest, confident, responsive, and knowledgeable

• 18-room OR offering multiple cardiovascular and vascular surgical services
• No float requirements
• Weekend shifts are on-call only
• The position requires adherence to hospital policies and ongoing professional development
