Travel RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) - Operating Room

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role: RN First Assistant (RNFA) in Operating Room (OR)
  • Number of Openings: 4
  • Shift: Days, Monday to Friday, 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM (5 x 8-hour shifts)
  • Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
  • Weekend Hours: As required by facility; on-call support varies
  • Call Requirements: Approximately 1 evening per week and 1 weekend every 4-6 weeks

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current RN License eligible for or licensed in Missouri
  • Required Certifications: BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association only)
  • Preferred Certifications: First Assisting and Neuro OR certifications

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years RNFA experience
  • General and Orthopedic OR experience required
  • Preferred: Neuro OR experience in addition to General and Ortho cases

Unit & Patient Information

  • Unit: Operating Room with 21 OR rooms
  • Patient Types: Adult, Geriatric, some Pediatrics
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 60 cases per day
  • Equipment: Standard OR equipment plus 2 XI DaVinci Robots, 1 Rosa, and 3 Stealth navigation systems for Neuro/ENT procedures
  • EMR Systems: EPIC and Tecsys (supplies)

Job Responsibilities

  • Utilize nursing process in perioperative practice including thorough patient assessment and documentation
  • Organize patient data, identify nursing diagnoses, and formulate perioperative nursing care plans collaboratively
  • Implement and coordinate nursing interventions throughout the perioperative experience
  • Supervise personnel to ensure readiness and timeliness for surgical procedures
  • Apply advanced knowledge of anatomy, asepsis, infection control, wound healing, and surgical techniques
  • Anticipate tissue locations and physiological consequences during surgery
  • Plan and assist with wound closure and postoperative care
  • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique and infection control guidelines
  • Use appropriate methods for wound exposure, suctioning, sponging, and hemostasis
