Case Types and Responsibilities

• General/GYN/Urology/Peripheral Vascular (GGU):
  Circulate cases including bowel resections, laparoscopic procedures, daVinci Xi robotic cases, urology (open & scope), peripheral vascular, bariatrics, GYN (open and vaginal), c-sections, laparoscopic appendectomy, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

• Orthopedics (ORTHO):
  Circulate ortho cases including total joints (with or without MAKO robot for knees, hips, shoulders, ankles), arthroscopy, ortho trauma, plus c-sections, lap appy, lap chole, and bowel resections.

• Neuro/ENT/Oral/Plastics:
  Circulate cases such as tracheostomy, ENT (tonsillectomy & adenoidectomy, BMT, FESS), plastics, breast reductions, spine fusions, laminectomy, craniotomy, facial fractures, laryngoscopy/bronchoscopy, neck dissections, plus c-sections, lap appy, lap chole, and bowel resections.

• Specialized Groupings:
  Ortho, Neuro/ENT/Oral/Plastics, Cardiovascular-Transplant (CV-T) including Peripheral Vascular, General/GYN/Urology/Peripheral Vascular.

Staffing and Roles

• Scrubbing required: No (circulating RN role)
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Always a charge RN in the OR; staffed 24/7/365 with minimum one RN and one surgical tech.
• OR Techs: Yes
• EMR System: Cerner

Shifts & Scheduling

• Primarily day shifts:

  • 0700-1530 or 0700-1730 or 0700-1930
• Evening shifts: One week of PM shifts (1500-2330) approximately every 5 weeks
• Night shifts: Possible with experience (2300-0700)
• Shift length options: 8-hour or 10-hour shifts; 12-hour shifts available on subsequent contracts if staffing allows (not guaranteed on first contract)
• Typical schedule examples:

  • 4x10-hour days (0700-1730) or
  • 5x8-hour days (0700-1530)
• PM week shifts are 5x8 hours (Mon-Fri)

Call and Weekend Requirements

• Weeknight call: 1-2 nights per week (from end of shift to 0700)
• Weekend call: Approximately 1 weekend every 5-6 weeks
• Holiday call: At least 1 holiday per year
• Call response times:

  • Call team 1: 30 minutes
  • Call teams 2-4: 45 minutes

Additional Requirements

• Floating: Yes, to the Outpatient Surgery Center across campus
• Scrub color/dress code: Navy blue scrubs provided at no cost
• Orientation:

  • 2-3 days with educator covering basics and computer-based trainings (CBTs)
  • 1-2 weeks of case-specific orientation to learn flow or unfamiliar cases
• Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Previous employment with the facility must have ended at least 6 months prior to submission

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs comfortable circulating a wide variety of surgical cases across multiple specialties, with flexibility for shift types and call requirements.
