Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - CCU Stepdown (Contract)

Location: New York, NY

Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to a designated group of patients in a heart hospital setting. Care is delivered based on nursing theory, research, evidence-based practice, and organizational standards.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver patient care using Relationship Centered Care principles and nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs; apply critical thinking in care management.
  • Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team on care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
  • Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

  • Role model Relationship Centered Care practices (e.g., Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding).
  • Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
  • Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

  • Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
  • Implement process improvement and evidence-based practice strategies.
  • Participate in peer and institutional review processes.
  • Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
  • Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
  • Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
  • Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.

Operations

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
  • Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
  • Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource utilization.
  • Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
  • Maintain thorough and compliant documentation.

Qualifications

  • Current New York State RN License
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience, including cardiology, telemetry, and post-procedural catheterization experience
  • Travel experience preferred for travel positions (not required for per diem)
  • EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; Associate degree considered with relevant experience or active BSN matriculation

Unit Information

  • Average unit census: 28 patients
  • Unit size: 35 beds
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with cardiology and telemetry background seeking a contract role in a high-acuity heart hospital environment.
