Unit Information

• Department: Med Surg RN 2E
• Beds: 15
• Nurse:Patient Ratios:

  • 0700-1900: 1:4-5
  • 1900-0730: 1:5-6
• Common Diagnoses / Patient Types:

  • Post-Surgical: Orthopedics, Urology, Gynecology/Oncology, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, ENT, Plastics, GI
  • Acute Medical patients with short anticipated length of stay may also be admitted

Requirements & Skills

• Experience: 1-2 years acute care nursing experience required
• Certifications: BLS (AHA) required
• RN Responsibilities:

  • Titrate drips (Heparin, occasionally nitro, Cardizem, insulin)
  • Read own telemetry strips (monitored remotely by Tele/Monitor Techs using GE system)

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse: Present on all shifts and takes assignment
• House Supervisor: Present on all shifts
• Nursing Assistants: Present 0630-1900, ratio 1:8-12
• Respiratory Therapy: Support available; no acute RT; CPAP, BIPAP, High Flow Oxygen Therapy; no ventilators

Shifts & Scheduling

• RN Shifts:

  • 0700-1930
  • 1100-2330
  • 2300-0700
• CNA Shifts:

  • 0630-1900
  • 1830-0700
• Scheduling: Block scheduling (no self-scheduling), dependent on staffing
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating: Required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation:

  • 1 day computer training
  • 1-2 days precepted floor orientation based on skills
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs, clean and professional

Additional Notes:

• Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Previous employment with the facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
