Travel RN Opportunity – Behavioral Health

Location: Galax, Virginia
Facility Type: 141-bed hospital with acute care, ambulatory care, and emergency services

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Role: Registered Nurse (RN)
• Specialty: Behavioral Health
• Shift: 7 PM – 7 AM
• Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed
• Weekend Hours: Every other weekend / as needed
• Call Requirements: As needed
• Number of Openings: 2
• Patient Population: Adult
• Number of Beds: 12
• Patient Ratio: 1:8
• Electronic Health Record (EHR): Paragon
• Equipment Used: Telehealth, Medication Machine, Dinamap, Emergency Response

Required Qualifications & Certifications

• Valid RN license to practice in Virginia
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or Handle with Care certification
• 1-2 years of medical RN experience (float requirements)
• Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) experience preferred but not required

Skills & Experience

• De-escalation techniques
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to delegate tasks to techs
• Patient assessment skills
• Experience with isolation and restraint procedures
• Medical RN experience required
• Preferred: Non-BHU nursing experience and Charge RN experience

Common Diagnoses/Treatments

• Bipolar disorder
• Schizophrenia
• Depression
• Personality disorders

Work Environment & Culture

• Dress code: Scrubs with no specific color requirement
• Avoid excessive jewelry
• Personality fit: Matter-of-fact, non-judgmental approach

Compliance & Background Checks (Required for all clinical staff)

• Virginia Central Registry clearance
• Virginia Fingerprinting (FBI and VA State Police background check)
• Virginia State Police Criminal History Record Check
• Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Registry clearance
