Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR)
Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: 13 weeks (89 days ≈ 13 weeks)
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to patients in the Operating Room setting, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care.
- Collaborate with healthcare team to develop and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Address patient/family concerns and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Participate in quality improvement projects and evidence-based practice activities.
- Follow institutional protocols to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate with management to ensure adequate supplies and staffing.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Use cost-effective approaches to patient care resources.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical decision-making, and effective communication.
- Encourage lifelong learning, inquiry, and innovation.
- Participate in shared decision-making through councils and committees.
Qualifications
- Current New York State RN License required.
- BLS certification required.
- CNOR certification preferred.
- Minimum 2 years OR experience, including scrub and circulate roles.
- Minimum 2 years RN experience.
- EPIC experience highly preferred.
- Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays required.
Additional Notes
- Travel experience of 1 year preferred for travel positions (not required for per diem).
- Position involves working in an OR unit with responsibilities that may include charge nurse duties.
