Job Opportunity: Registered Professional Nurse (Med Surg/Telemetry)
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Specialty: Intermediate Care (IMC) - Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
- Responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating nursing care as defined by the New York State Nursing Practice Act.
- Provides comprehensive medical/surgical nursing care to adult patients (18 years and older) in a Medical/Surgical/Telemetry setting.
- Focuses on helping patients achieve their optimum health potential within the nursing process framework.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients with medical and surgical diagnoses.
- Accountable for the care of telemetry medical/surgical patients.
- Assess patients’ physical, social, behavioral, and mental status through observation, interviews, and medical record review.
- Monitor vital signs including heart rate, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry.
- Obtain baseline EKG strips each shift and interpret cardiac rhythms and abnormalities.
- Perform ongoing cardiac monitor observations and manage monitoring equipment during admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Document nursing assessments including psychosocial and educational needs.
- Collaborate and communicate with healthcare team members (social workers, case managers, therapists, physicians).
- Prepare and transport monitored patients as per policy.
- Provide explanations of test results and procedures to patients and families.
- Identify patient education needs and formulate individualized care plans.
- Make appropriate referrals to other disciplines and document accordingly.
Required Skills & Experience
- Clinical nursing skills including symptom identification, disease management, treatment modalities, and medication administration.
- Critical thinking in patient assessment and intervention.
- Infection control practices and collaboration with infection control departments.
- Provide psychosocial support and health education to patients and families.
- Perform procedures according to established standards of care.
- Investigate and report unusual occurrences or patient care incidents.
- Act as a patient advocate.
- Revise patient care plans based on evaluation and collaboration with healthcare team.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

- Minimum of 1 year medical/surgical nursing experience.
