Neuro ICU Nurse Travel Opportunity

Location: Carmichael, California
Unit: Neuro ICU - McAuley ICU (20 beds)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Requirements

• Specialty: Neuro ICU
• Years of Experience: 2 years (preferred)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Active California Nursing License
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour shifts, starting at 6:45 AM
• Schedule:

  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday rotation with core staff
  • Self-scheduling available but finalized by manager
  • Schedules released 4 weeks in advance
  • Overtime and extra shifts available
• Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
• Orientation: 1-2 days floor-specific orientation with preceptor
• Floating: Possible to other Sacramento facilities; mid-shift float is rare
• Charge Nurse: Yes, generally does not take patients but covers breaks
• Nurse Aides: Available as safety attendants (sitters)
• Telemetry: Yes, must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Ventilator Patients: Yes
• Support Services:

  • Hospitalist or Intensivist in-house
  • Respiratory Therapy 24/7
  • Pharmacy 24/7 with ICU pharmacy open during dayshift
  • No dedicated IV team

Patient Population & Care Focus

• Common diagnoses: CVA (stroke), intracerebral hemorrhage, neuro surgeries, craniotomies, neuro interventional radiology, ventriculostomies
• Frequent line insertions
• Strong Stroke Program and Neuro Center
• Newer, state-of-the-art unit

Additional Notes

• Candidates must not have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year (PRN through outside firms is acceptable)
• Dysphagia exam (basic) through UNA required prior to acceptance; must be completed within 24-48 hours with pass/fail criteria and two attempts allowed
• Scrub color: Navy (under shirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy)
