Job Opportunity: IMC - RN - Behavioral Health

Location: Brooklyn, New York
Employment Type: Clinical - Nursing - DPC
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Summary

The Registered Professional Nurse (RN) is responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating all nursing care for acutely ill adult psychiatric and substance abuse patients aged 16 and older. The role focuses on comprehensive mental health nursing care to help patients achieve their optimum health potential within the nursing process framework. Collaboration with the healthcare team is essential to meet patient and family needs.


Key Responsibilities

Nursing Process

  • Assess patients’ physical, social, and psychological status through observation, interviews, and medical assessments.
  • Document comprehensive nursing assessments including fall risk, pain, suicide risk, nutrition, psychosocial and environmental factors, educational needs, and discharge planning.
  • Identify nursing care problems related to substance abuse, mental illness, or prolonged neuroleptic use.
  • Continuously reassess and communicate findings with the healthcare team.
  • Formulate, prioritize, and document nursing diagnoses addressing physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and educational needs.
  • Develop and document patient-centered, measurable goals and care plans.

Intervention/Implementation

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to implement comprehensive care plans.
  • Manage withdrawal symptoms, agitated patients, medication administration, and dependent/suicidal patients.
  • Utilize non-violent crisis interventions during psychiatric emergencies.
  • Maintain infection control standards.
  • Provide psychosocial support and health teaching/counseling individually and in groups.
  • Participate in treatment plans, medical and interdisciplinary rounds, and clinical assessments.
  • Ensure all procedures comply with established mental health nursing standards.
  • Delegate and assist ancillary nursing personnel appropriately.
  • May have unsupervised patient contact.

Evaluation

  • Interpret and document patient responses to nursing and medical regimens.
  • Revise care plans based on patient evaluations and collaborate with the healthcare team.
  • Evaluate patient and family responses to discharge teaching.

Position Requirements

  • New York State RN License (required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred)
  • BCLS certification (required)
  • Minimum 1 year medical/surgical nursing experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of PMCS (preferred)

  • Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending.
  • May include repetitive motions.
