Travel RN Step Down Nurse Opportunity

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Specialty: RN Step Down

Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Schedule: Every Other Week (EOW) and Every Other Holiday (EOH)
  • Requires 2 years of experience in PCU / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care
  • Placement on unit with greatest need: PCU, Med/Surg, or Tele unit based on skills
  • Accepts Med/Surg or Stepdown RN credentials (same credentialing for both)
  • Must be able to float onsite within skill set or to sites within 40 miles if needed

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of specialty experience in PCU / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • ACLS (American Heart Association)
  • Current nursing license with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
  • License/Certificate verification within 30 days prior to start

Required Onboarding & Compliance

  • Ascension Color Vision test (completed prior to start, updated every 3 years)
  • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within a year of start, updated yearly)
  • NIH Certification (updated yearly or every 2 years depending on group)
  • Ascension EKG Exam (passing score of at least 80%, two attempts allowed)
  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (done onsite)
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip training
  • Ascension Epic Test-Out (training and test results required)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
  • Fit Test: Required annually; preferred prior to start
  • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • TB Screening: Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within a year, and annual TB questionnaire
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA within 90 days prior to start
  • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history; no declinations accepted
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
  • 12 Panel Drug Screen: Completed within 30 days prior to start and updated annually

Professional & Background Requirements

  • Ascension Profile (resume or professional profile)
  • Two professional references prior to first assignment
  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender, and others within 30 days of first assignment; updated annually
  • EPLS check within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service > 90 days
  • Verification of education relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
  • Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and updates with extensions
  • Employment verification for past seven years; updated annually
  • Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills verification) within one year of start, updated annually
  • Driver’s License/State ID (must be current and match address requirements)
  • Badge photo with white or blue background (no alterations)

Additional Notes

  • Floating to other units or nearby sites (within 40 miles) may be required based on need
  • Must complete all required onboarding, certifications, and health screenings prior to or at start of assignment

This position is ideal for experienced Step Down or Med/Surg RNs with acute care telemetry experience seeking a travel assignment in Wisconsin.
