ER RN Travel Job - Wisconsin Rapids, WI
Position Details
- Specialty: ER RN
- Location: Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
- Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts (7 AM - 7 PM / 7 PM - 7 AM)
- Schedule: Block scheduling; manager assigns shifts and fills in as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Holiday Requirement: Every 3rd major holiday, including major winter holidays
- Call Requirement: No regular on-call; may be placed on call if no inpatients are in house (rotated)
- Floating: Required to float between ED and inpatient unit (10 beds) when inpatient opens; may assist at a similar nearby facility
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- Strongly preferred: TNCC, NRP, ENPC
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years ED experience in a similar setting if no prior travel experience
- OR 1 year experience in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) or similar setting if a first-time traveler
- Must be comfortable working with limited resources
- Must be willing to work inpatient medical-surgical and flex between units as needed
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required, but experience in similar settings or prior travel contracts preferred
Department & Facility Information
- Non-designated trauma level, STEMI receiving, or stroke center
- ED/Urgent Care combined facility; Urgent Care hours 8 AM - 8 PM
- No designated triage nurse; bedside triage performed by RNs
- ED holds intermixed within the ED; transfers to specialty care or ICU as needed
- No separate psych/seclusion rooms
- No 24/7 onsite security; panic button linked to 911 available
- Average patient volume: 30-40 patients per day
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4
Common Patient Types & Diagnoses
- Cardiac, diabetic, stroke, tick bites, respiratory issues, wounds
- Patients triaged, treated, and transferred out; some stays may last a full day
Clinical Responsibilities
- Common drips: Heparin, Diltiazem
- RNs responsible for reading their own cardiac monitor strips (GE monitors)
- No respiratory therapist onsite; RNs assist with intubation, transport vent monitoring, and troubleshooting respiratory equipment (vent, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow)
- ED techs assist with sitting, labs, IVs, EKGs, and patient care 24/7
- RN/techs draw labs; lab picks up samples from unit
- X-ray and CT available 24/7; patients transport themselves; MRI available on certain days; point-of-care ultrasound available
Orientation & Training
- 3 full shifts of orientation on ED unit at a nearby location prior to facility opening
- First week of training may be dayshift (7 AM - 7 PM)
- Mandatory orientation paperwork and computer-based training (CBTs)
- Initial training includes working in Stevens Point before transitioning to new building
Additional Notes
- Dress code: Solid color scrubs, likely navy blue (not mandatory yet)
- Charge nurse takes assignments; staffing includes 2-3 RNs on shift with additional support as needed
- Facility is new and expected to open soon (date mentioned is in the future)
