Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Intensive Care (ICU)
Location: Brooklyn, New York

Job Summary
- Provide direct patient care using the nursing process.
- Responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating care for assigned patients.
- Deliver care according to established nursing standards, hospital policies, and multidisciplinary practices.
- Diagnose and treat human responses to actual and potential health problems through case finding, health teaching, counseling, and supportive/restorative care.
- Supervise care provided by LPNs, RNs on permit, nursing attendants, technicians, and supplemental staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess immediate and ongoing care needs of patients and their significant others.
- Develop comprehensive, current care plans addressing physical, psychosocial, spiritual, teaching, and discharge needs.
- Provide direct patient care based on assessments and medical regimens.
- Oversee all aspects of patient care and supervise other nursing personnel within scope of practice.
- Observe, evaluate, document, and communicate patient responses to illness and treatments.
- Ensure timely reassessment and follow-up when patient condition or diagnosis changes.
- Coordinate nursing interventions with the overall medical plan of care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to establish care priorities and ensure timely care delivery.
- Integrate age-specific care needs (e.g., pediatrics, geriatrics) into care plans.
- Accept accountability for nursing interventions and outcomes based on clinical judgment.
- Participate in quality improvement activities related to patient care and nursing standards.
- Communicate effectively, manage stressful situations, and facilitate interdisciplinary relationships.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in orientation of new nursing staff.
- Assume charge nurse responsibilities as delegated.
- Assist with patient coverage and float to other units as needed.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Serve as a clinical resource for student nurses.
- Engage in meetings, committees, conferences, and educational programs.
- Participate in nursing research and pilot projects.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth and education, including continuing education and advanced degrees.
- Participate in professional and community organizations.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a Level I or II Trauma Center ICU setting.
- Competency with CRRT machine operation, ventilators, tracheostomy and gastrostomy tubes, medication titration, and arterial lines (A-lines).
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
Certifications & Licenses
- Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCAR)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- American Heart Association Stroke Certification
Preferred Certifications (Not Required)
- CRRT Certification
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
- Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN)
