Job Details

  • Assignment Type: Weekend assignment plus one extra day
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift Options:
    • 6am - 6pm
    • 6pm - 6am
    • 11am - 9pm
    • 9am - 9pm
  • Weekend and Holiday Work Required
  • Call or Standby: No call required
  • Floating: May be asked to float to other areas if trained

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Active Wisconsin RN license
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)

Experience Requirements

Facility & Unit Information

  • ER Size: 12 beds / 10 rooms (2 trauma rooms)
  • Patient Volume: 30-55 patients per day
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1 RN to 4-5 patients depending on acuity
  • Fast Track: No fast-track area
  • Triage: Separate triage room available but no designated triage nurse; patients taken to rooms immediately if available
  • Holding Area: No separate holding area; ER nurses manage ER holds; extended holds admitted to inpatient observation
  • Psych/Seclusion Rooms: None designated; patients placed appropriately
  • Security: No in-house security

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • Pediatric and adult patients
  • Common conditions treated include:
    • Stroke (facility working toward stroke-ready certification)
    • Cerebral palsy (CP)
    • STEMI (heart attacks)
    • Trauma cases
    • Appendicitis
    • Cholecystectomy post-op care
    • COPD, CHF
    • Sepsis
    • RSV, COVID-19, Pneumonia
    • Atrial fibrillation (Afib)

Staff & Support

  • Board-certified Emergency Department Physicians (no mid-level providers)
  • Lead RNs serve as Charge Nurses/House Supervisors
  • ED Techs assist as nurse aides/paramedics/patient sitters
  • Respiratory Therapists provide ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen, ABGs, breathing treatments, and emergency gas support
  • RN responsible for venous blood draws
  • Epic EMR system in use

Equipment & Technology

  • Specialized pediatric airway scopes and nitrous oxide sedation available for minor procedures
  • Cardiac monitors in each room with central monitoring station; RNs must be able to read EKG strips
  • On-site X-ray and CT imaging
  • Local EMS assists with patient transport, with RN accompaniment

Orientation & Dress Code

  • Unit-specific orientation provided
  • Dress code: Navy scrubs

This position is ideal for ER nurses with experience in rural settings who are comfortable managing a diverse patient population including pediatrics and trauma, and who hold the required certifications. Weekend and holiday availability is required.
