Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Tele Oncology
Location: Jackson, Mississippi
Unit: 5 South Hematology/Oncology
Facility Type: Level 1 Trauma Center, Very Large Hospital
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on the Hematology/Oncology unit.
- Chemo certification NOT required; manager will train on chemo administration.
- EPIC charting experience required.
- Must be comfortable with lines, chest tubes, hem/onc patients.
- Experience with chemo preferred.
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:6, adjusted for higher acuity patients.
- RNs may titrate heparin drips; cardiac drips on some units.
- Telemetry monitors on all patients; RNs work with central monitoring stations.
- Charge nurses take light or full patient assignments as needed.
- Respiratory therapy support available (CPAP, BiPAP at night; high flow on other units).
- Floating required within skillset across med/surg units.
Requirements
- Specialty Experience:
- Minimum 1 year solid RN experience on first job.
- Minimum 1 year experience at a Level 1 trauma center or very large hospital.
- Prior travel experience preferred but not required.
- Certifications:
- BLS required.
- ACLS required for charge nurses.
- Vaccinations:
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemption allowed with documentation).
- Scheduling:
- 12-hour shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a).
- Weekend work: typically every other or 2 weekends per month; holiday rotation required.
- Must work at least 3 of the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day.
- Block scheduling possible; travelers expected to fill schedule gaps.
- Orientation:
- First day: paperwork, system logins, unit tour.
- Followed by 2 additional shifts with a preceptor (12-hour night shifts).
Additional Information
- Fingerprint background check required (remote or in-person options).
- Dress code: solid, professional scrub colors (any color).
- Local candidates accepted.
- Nurse aides available on unit.
- No call or standby requirements.
