Job Opportunity: IMC - RN - Pre-Surgical Testing (PST)

Location: Brooklyn, New York


Job Summary

Responsible for providing safe, compassionate, and quality nursing care to patients undergoing ambulatory surgical procedures. Duties include patient teaching, physical and psychological preparation, assisting unit operations, and acting as a liaison between patients and the healthcare team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform ongoing assessments, data, and specimen collection focusing on physiologic, cognitive, and cultural diversity.
  • Verify patient identification, procedure, consent, NPO status, and allergies.
  • Conduct point of care testing as ordered by physicians.
  • Communicate lab results, EKG, chest x-ray, echocardiogram, and medical clearance to healthcare team or anesthesiologist.
  • Identify and communicate patient problems and instruct patients on prescribed interventions.
  • Collaborate with surgeons and healthcare team to plan patient and family interventions.
  • Educate ambulatory surgical patients on surgical procedures and anesthetic effects; complete electronic documentation.
  • Assist patients in understanding the surgical process and answer questions.
  • Prepare and maintain patient charts, ensuring all necessary documents and test results are present before procedures.
  • Contact preoperative patients prior to surgery to provide arrival times and reinforce instructions.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in operating room, PACU, or critical care settings.

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not specified / not required

Required Education & Certifications

  • NYS Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
