Job Opportunity: RN First Assist (RNFA)
Location: Northampton, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Schedule: 4 shifts of 10 hours each per week
- On-call: Two days a week from 5 PM (or end of shift) to 7 PM, plus one weekend (Saturday and Sunday) every 3 weekends with 24-hour weekend call coverage
- Role: Assist surgeon in a lead role until the conclusion of operative procedures; may also circulate as needed
- Work under the direction of the Nurse Manager, Operating Room, following organizational and departmental policies
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved School of Nursing
- Current RN licensure in Massachusetts
- Completion of an RN First Assisting course conforming to AORN Core Curriculum
- Minimum 5 years of diversified peri-operative nursing experience, including both scrubbing and circulating proficiency
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Required Credentials and Health Compliance
- Professional photo (color, recent, plain background, no glasses)
- License and certification verification (including RN license)
- Fit test for N95 respirator (within 365 days, updated annually)
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccination or proof of immunity
- Influenza vaccine (required during flu season, no exemptions)
- TB screening (skin test or blood test within 3 months, updated if >6 month break)
- Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 365 days
- Strongly preferred: Hepatitis B vaccination or proof of immunity
- Optional but preferred: Tdap vaccine within 10 years
- Criminal background checks including Massachusetts CORI, SSN trace, national sex offender registry, and exclusion checks
- Respirator Medical Clearance attestation
- Resume including 7 years of work experience with city and state details
- References: 2 recent, at least 1 supervisor or above in skillset
- Skills checklist and candidate submission coversheet required for submission
