Job Opportunity: Med Surg RN in Wisconsin

Location

• City: Rice Lake, Wisconsin

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit Details

• 32 beds with a daily census of approximately 17.5 patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Med Surg: 5:1
  • ICU (step-down unit): 1:3
  • IMC: 1:2 to 1:4
• Two nurse aides scheduled per shift
• Respiratory Therapist coverage 22 hours per day, 7 days a week

Shift Information

• Shifts: 5:00 PM – 5:30 AM or 5:00 AM – 5:30 PM (12-hour shifts)
• 30-minute meal break
• No block scheduling or self-scheduling for agency nurses
• Flexible weekend and holiday requirements
• Possible low census standby or call
• Floating may be required to assist in the Emergency Department during codes/trauma

Patient Population and Common Diagnoses

• COPD, Pneumonia, Atrial Fibrillation with Rapid Ventricular Response (AFib RVR), Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), CIWA (alcohol withdrawal), Cardiac patients

Required Skills and Responsibilities

• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Patient-centered care focus
• Experience with BSSR (Bedside Shift Report) and hourly rounding
• Phlebotomy, IV starts, EKG, telemetry monitoring, cardioversions
• Critical thinking and time management
• RNs are required to titrate drips including pressors, insulin, anticoagulants, epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, angiotensin-II, etc.
• RNs must read their own telemetry strips
• Charge nurse takes assignments; department charge nurse and house supervisor present

Equipment

• Use of CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, ventilators

Orientation

• One day of unit-specific orientation with an RN

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs, no hoodies

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Required Experience

• Specialty: Med Surg RN

Prior Travel Experience
