Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract
Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Nights
Schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (OT after 48 hours)
Work Days: Weekdays, every other weekend (EOW), float, holidays within contract
Job Description
- Unit: 6S MedSurg Telemetry
- Patient Ratio: 1:7
- Must be EPIC proficient (no exceptions)
- Required Skills:
- IV Start
- Telemetry Interpretation
- Experience working with neurology/stroke patients
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification (must be current within 1 year and renewed annually)
- License: Compact or Virginia RN license required (must have in hand)
- Background: Zero tolerance for any license or background hits
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of specialty experience as a Registered Nurse in MedSurg Telemetry
- Prior travel experience is required (explicitly stated)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Fingerprinting:
- Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results required within first week of contract start (effective 1/1/2026)
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year (PAPR not allowed)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual TB testing required)
- Immunizations/Titers within 10 years for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Varicella (or declination)
- Tdap vaccine within past 10 years (preferred for all units)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (or approved exemption with mask requirement)
- COVID vaccine preferred but not required
Additional Requirements
- Proof of 2 professional references
- Completed employment application/resume
- Unit-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
- Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication competency (must score 80% or higher)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing for cardiac monitor competency
- Photo for badge (passport style, shoulders up, plain background)
Important Notes
- Candidate must be pre-closed on patient ratio (1:7) before submission
- Must include Qualivis Cover Sheet and current NURSYS report with all Return to Office (RTO) documentation
- Night shift includes weekdays, every other weekend, float, and holidays
- Auto offer position
This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg Telemetry RNs with neurology/stroke experience who have prior travel contract experience and meet strict licensing and background requirements.
